Miami Vice

Posted by Picasa

I took this photo on the fly as we zoomed along the Dolphin expressway in Miami, Florida.
Today, we decided to explore Miami proper, actually Miami Beach. We totally understand why people love this area. It is just gorgeous. It is light and bright and white-pink, blue, aqua, lemon, lime, orange, and turquoise, too.
Finally, Mel fits into this South Beach scene. I now realized what an influence Miami Vice had on Mel. We toured an area called Lincoln Road Mall (think Michigan Avenue with no cars or buses) block after block of posh stores, outdoor cafes and the beautiful people. We dined at a wonderful restaurant, Van Dyke's Cafe, which provided generous portions, and enjoyed the people watching.
Of course, we stumbled upon a theater so we took in yet another movie, Breakfast on Pluto, another alternative life-style movie. We enjoyed it so much more than Brokeback Mountain. It was colorful, humorous, serious and had dialogue, which was a serious flaw with Brokeback. We have to have seen all movies left to be seen in greater Miami.
After our time at Lincoln Road Mall, we took a scenic tour of the intercoastal highway, A1A, ending at the historic Art Deco District with a drive along Ocean Drive. To see the Atlantic Ocean would have required a parking space with a short hike to the beach, but think a drive through Lincoln Park on a Sunday afternoon, no such thing as a parking space. The result was cars just cruising Ocean Drive and watching people on the sidewalks at cafes and in the park.
