Cape Florida Lighthouse

Posted by Picasa

This is the Cape Florida Lighthouse, built in 1846, on Key Biscayne.

After visiting Coconut Grove, we took a driving tour, north on Bay Shore Drive with old mansions and lush gardens, think driving Sheridan Road . Our roaming led us to bridges taking us to Key Biscayne, a fabulous island separating Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. At the tip of Key Biscayne is a state park, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. During the Civil War, Cape Florida served as a station of the "Underground Railroad" for runaway slaves and Seminole Indians seeking freedom. At the end of the state park is the lighthouse.
